seasonal food CALENDAR: summer

What fruit and veg is in season in the UK summer

Summer has arrived, and with it a bounty of produce filling our gardens, allotments and kitchen windowsills with seasonal food.

When foods are in season, there are bountiful amounts meaning you may pick up more deals in the organic section of the supermarkets, so don’t let price checks earlier in the year put you off. Now is a good time to be batch cooking with simple recipes such as organic tomatoes into pasta sauce. Tomatoes are high in carotenoids, so one of Wholesome World’s anticancer ingredients.

Eating seasonal vegetables or fruit grown in the UK is also good for the environment. Instead of eating produce flown in from around the world, we can eat seasonal food grown in the UK that has a much lower carbon footprint – which is more sustainable.

So, if you are ready to pick your own, head to the farmers market or get a good deal in the organic section at the supermarket, you’ve come to the right place.
